Win 8.1 and 10 Password Reset/Removal

Boot with a recovery disk or USB

Shift + F10 to open a command prompt

Run these commands

move c:\windows\system32\utilman.exe c:\windows\system32\utilman.exe.bak

copy c:\windows\system32\cmd.exe c:\windows\system32\utilman.exe

wpeutil reboot

Now on the login screen the utility manager will open a command prompt

Run these commands

net user <username> /add

net localgroup administrators <username> /add

Run these commandsClose prompt and reboot. Your new user will be in the login screen.

 

Alternate for Windows 10

Boot to install CD go to command prompt

X:\Sources

C: <enter>

Cd system32 <enter>.

You should be at C:\Windows\System32

Run these commands

rename osk.exe osk.old <enter>

rename cmd.exe osk.exe <enter>

Exit <enter>

Boot to hard drive

The On Screen Keyboard will now launch a command prompt

Cd c:\Windows\System32

Net user <displays user accounts>

Net user <user> * to reset local account pw

 

To put the command prompt back boot to the install CD

Back to command prompt, c:\Windows\System32

Rename osk.exe cmd.exe

Rename osk.old osk.exe

How To Disable Norton 360

  • Start Norton 360.
  • In the Norton 360 main window, in the upper-right corner, click Tasks & Settings.
  • In the Tasks & Settings window, on the right, click Change Advanced Settings.
  • In the Advanced Settings window, click Virus & Spyware Protection Settings.
  • In the Automatic Protection Settings tab, uncheck Turn on Auto-Protect, and then click Apply.
  • Under “How long would you like to disable Auto-Protect for?” select Until I turn it back on, and then click OK.
  • Click Firewall Protection Settings.
  • Under Firewall, click Off.
  • Click Apply.
  • Under “How long should the firewall remain turned off?” select Until I turn back on, and then click OK.
  • Click Close¬†

  • How to Disable Some Common Firewalls

    Windows XP

    1. Log on as a user that is a member of the Administrators group.
    2. Open the Network Connections folder, right click the desired connection, and then click Properties.
    3. Click the Advanced tab, and remove the check from Protect my computer and network by limiting or preventing access to this computer from the Internet.
    4. Click Yes to the dialog windows that asks you to confirm your decision to disable the firewall.

    1. Log on using an account with Adult or Supervisor rights. Open Norton Internet Security.
    2. On the left side of the window, click Internet Status and then click Current Status.
    3. In the Current Status window, click Disable.

    2. On the left side of the window, click Internet Status and then click Current Status.
    3. In the Current Status window, click Disable.

    You can also disable Norton Personal Firewall by right-clicking on the Norton Personal Firewall icon in the notification area of the taskbar and selecting disable.

    McAfee Internet Security

    1. Right-click the McAfee icon.
    2. Point to Personal Firewall and then click Options.
    3. Click the Security tab.
    4. Set the Security Level by moving the slider to the desired level.
    5. Set Access to Low.
    6. Click OK to save changes.
